Introduction to Entrepreneurship

 ENTR 201S

ENTR 201S Intro to Entrepreneurship is a course I took during my Junior year. This course broadened my views of career opportunities in an increasingly global and diverse world. It provided me with intellectual perspectives of entrepreneurship and opportunities to engage in the search for knowledge regarding opportunity value and resource management. Basic analytical and critical thinking skills are developed for making reasoned judgments concerning organization creation.

During this course, I experienced the process of creating a feasible business plan, using the design-think method. We were encouraged to use empathy and human-centered approaches to get to the root of the problem so that we can design a solution that best closes the gaps created by the problem. We were also given the opportunity to create a formal written report as well as present a pitch deck.

Our Proposed Business:
Wash Day

Pitch Presentation

Wash Day is an online retailer of natural hair care products, tools, and accessories, that caters to ALL natural hair types. Through the company's Hair Type Analysis Quiz, it provides customers with products designed to work for their unique hair types. Wash Day offers monthly subscription boxes with trial-sized hair products and accessories, as well as full-sized products on its website.

During this course, I chose to focus on the problems surrounding black hair care. I was able to gain valuable problem-solving skills by getting hands-on experience. I learned how to use different research methods to unlock new perspectives and uncover problems within our community. This helped me fully understand the problem and come up with a business idea that helps close the gap. With those skills, I was able to formulate a solution that best meets the needs of the community I was servicing.

Formal Business Plan

Having the opportunity to create a formal business plan, design a pitch, and present it, allowed me to become a real entrepreneur. After graduation, I plan on starting a small business with my family. This course provided me with the knowledge, resources, and skills I need to run a sustainable business. I've already begun market research and I've started a formal business plan and pitch presentation for my small business idea. Without this course, I wouldn't have had the confidence I have now.
